The Universidad de las Américas-Puebla (UDLAP) is one of most highly regarded private universities in Mexico. It is accredited in the United States by SACS, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

In addition to top rated academic programs, and perhaps unexpectedly, the UDLAP has an American style university football team that regularly places well among the Mexican league. A number of other team and individual sports are also available to visiting students.

Puebla, a stunning colonial city in the State of Puebla, is about 70 miles southeast of Mexico City—close enough for day trips to see the wealth of cultural attractions in the capital, and far enough away to escape the traffic and pollution.

Located in Cholula, seven miles from the capitol city of Puebla, UDLA is a private university of exceptionally high academic quality with a comprehensive curriculum. The UDLA program is designed for students with at least three years of university level Spanish who wish to enroll for a semester or an academic year. The university offers coursework in a wide range of disciplines through the School of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities; the School of Sciences and Engineering; and the School of Business and Economics. The University is accredited in the United States by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

Founded in 1940 as Mexico City College, the institution changed its name in 1968 to the Universidad de las Américas. The university moved to its present site in 1970 and has been growing and developing ever since. Student enrollment is now approximately 9,400. There are about 500 international students each year. There are over 700 faculty members, 45% of who have doctorates. In addition to being accredited in the United States, the UDLA has memberships in numerous educational and professional organizations.

This program is open to undergraduate students in any major. To be eligible, students must meet the following minimum requirements before departure:

  • sophomore standing
  • an overall GPA of 3.00 or above
  • a minimum of three years of college-level Spanish (or the equivalent)

Students must continue to make satisfactory academic progress throughout the application process and during their study abroad program, and otherwise comply with policies and procedures of the host university, IE3 Global, and their home university International Programs Office.

Students participating in the UDLA exchange have multiple housing options that include campus dormitories, homestays, or private housing. Dormitories are arranged in double suites with shared kitchen and shower facilities. Costs vary according to the option chosen. All on-campus and homestay arrangements are made by staff at the UDLA. Students opting for independent housing off-campus must make their own arrangements.

The campus has excellent athletic and extracurricular facilities.

Throughout your stay, you will receive expert academic and advising support from the UDLA International Affairs office. Students should be prepared to work with UDLAP advisors in collaboration with staff on your home campus and at the IE 3 offices in Oregon.

IE3 Global seeks to make its study abroad programs affordable and accessible. For detailed information regarding the program budget (both the program fee and an estimate of personal expenses), please click on the following:
