University Student Services & Language Education in France | Lyon, France

Our partner university is located in Lyon and hosts exchange students from the Pacific Northwest and around the world. Two offices at the university will share an intern. The international student services office (Services des relations Internationales) is responsible for assisting incoming students with orientation, registration, and welcoming events. The French Language and Culture Institute (Institut de Langue et de Culture Françaises) administers courses and language proficiency exams for international students who are studying French.

Our partner, a private Catholic university in Lyon, has around 10,000 students including 2,100 international students. Interns will work with both the international student services office (Services des relations Internationales) and the French Language and Culture Institute (Institut de Langue et de Culture Françaises) providing student support services and administrative support to the team.

Daily work in both roles requires an advanced to intermediate level of French proficiency.

International Relations Office

  • Receive international students and provide orientation
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the colleges and departments at the university with an international focus; particularly with the offices of student development
  • Coordinate events and activities to facilitate international student integration at the university
  • Filing, translation and other administrative assistance, as needed

French Language and Culture Institute

  • Assist with activities and programs aligned with the new academic year
  • Assist with administration of DELF and DALF exams
  • Coordinate events and activities for international students, specifically elections for the bureau d’étudiants
  • Depending on level of language mastery, translation and proofing of documents

Academic Background:

  • Candidates must have a mastery of the French language equivalent to 4th or 5th year university French (Le Diplôme d’études en langue française [DELF] B2+/ Diplôme approfondi de langue française [DALF] C1).
  • Interns must have previous experience living or studying in France.
  • All majors may apply. Interns with a background and experience working in a university setting and/or with international students is helpful.

Skills/Experience:

  • Interns are expected to demonstrate responsibility, professional motivation, flexibility, and effective communication skills.

Language Requirements:

  • French is the primary language of communication. Interns must be capable of written and spoken communication at an intermediate level in professional settings.

  • IE3 Global Program Fee: $3,450
  • International Travel: $1,000
  • Visa fees: $280*

Estimated Monthly Expenses

  • Housing: $550 - $850

  • Utilities, Phone, Internet: $200

*Fee amounts are calculated with an exchange rate from European Euro at the time of posting.

Past interns have been eligible for a 400€/month stipend (pre-taxes). However, this stipend is subject to funding availability and visa regulations.

Independent Housing

Interns arrange their own housing.
