Contribute to The Times of Central Asia, an unbiased and independent source of information in English focused on Central Asia. Since 1999, The Times has been an important resource for expatriates and the international community interests in the region. Subscribers include embassies, development organizations, international businesses, universities, and major hotels.
Interns will have the opportunity to write content, edit material, and support with layout, design, marketing, and advertising. Ideal internship for students with an interest in journalism or Central Asian studies.

The Times of Central Asia (TCA) is an English language newspaper published in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan since 1999. The Times of Central Asia website is updated daily and is free to access and archives are available by subscription. The Times of Central Asia has become an indispensable resource for international companies, government officials, banks, investors, non-profits, and individuals with an interest in the region.
Originally founded by Giorgio Fiacconi, an Italian investor and the first Honorary Consul of Italy in Kyrgyzstan. The daily newspaper is available online and covers Central Asian politics, investments, economy, commerce, culture, social issues, and current events. Contributing writers and photographers are primarily based throughout the region in Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan.
TCA’s philosophy is that Central Asia is a global region undergoing parallel changes, sharing many common problems and facing similar challenges. While they acknowledge the specificity of each country, they aim to put those identities in perspective for the sake of a deeper understanding of Central Asia. Central Asia’s location is of strategic importance for politics and economics, acting as a bridge between East and West Asia.
Interns will work The Times of Central Asia team to curate, produce, polish, and publish relevant content for the daily online newspaper. Depending on student interest and current needs, interns may also help with layout, design, marketing, advertising, editing, photojournalism, and archiving.
This internship is facilitated by The London School of Languages and Cultures. Interested interns may also have the opportunity to take discounted language courses (Russian, Kyrgyz, or Uzbek) with native speakers at The London School.
This internship is open to students from all fields of study but a background in journalism, communications, English, Russian, or Central Asian studies is preferred.
Prior experience working in publishing or journalism is preferred. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and flexible, and able to adjust to the local culture. An interest and background in Central Asian affairs is helpful.
This is an English language internship. Russian or Kyrgyz language skills are helpful for daily life, but not required for the internship itself (newspaper content is in English).
Candidates will be interviewed (typically via telephone) by the Director of The London School. Selected interns will need to obtain a Kyrgyz visa for the duration of their stay.
Interns will typically live in dormitory-style student housing or shared apartments. A homestay option may also be available.
