The U.S. Commercial Service Singapore is charged with helping U.S. firms interested in entering the Singaporean or ASEAN markets. Interns will gain hands-on experience exploring international trade, development, policy, and commercial relationships, particularly between the U.S. and SE Asia. Interns will conduct market research, develop customized solutions for clients, and support trade events.

CS Singapore internships are challenging and rewarding experiences that help interns gain an understanding of the business climate in Singapore and the region. Each intern works with CS staff on a variety of jobs and projects in supporting American companies looking to expand their business in SE Asia. Interns typically conduct market research, assist in developing customized solutions for clients, and support trade events.
The internship period is 12 weeks/90 days. The CS is busy year-round and interns are welcome to come during any term. However, those especially interested in trade events may want to apply for spring, summer, or fall term(s). Up to three interns support the CS each term. The internship is open only to U.S. citizens and final candidates must undergo background/police checks. As these checks can take up to three months to process, late applicants will not be considered.
This internship is open to students from all majors. Applicants with a background in international business, economics, international relations, or trade are preferred.
Prior experience in trade, public relations, or market research is preferred. Experience using Salesforce and databases is helpful. Candidates should be capable computer users, proficient with at least MS Word and Excel.
This is an English language internship. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
This internship is only open to current U.S. citizens. Applicants must undergo a background/police check by the U.S. government, which takes approximately three months to process.
Interested candidates should submit their IE3 Global application materials well in advance of the deadlines, especially for summer term.
It is recommended that summer candidates submit all application materials to IE3 Global by January 1st. Candidates must go through the interview, approval, and commitment process with IE3 Global before they can be considered by the Commercial Service.
Budgeting Note: Estimated costs are based on typical internship-related costs and a modest standard of living. Each intern’s costs will vary based on lifestyle choices (eating out vs. cooking, taking public transportation vs. taxis) and recreational spending (travelling on days off, hobbies, etc).
Interns are responsible for finding and arranging their own accommodations. Singapore has strict rules regarding short-term rentals for foreigners (less than three months), so interns should plan ahead to arrange suitable accommodations.
