The organization works with the Scottish Government and responds to various consultations for policy and legislation that affects disabled people, older people and veterans. Interns will have the opportunity to be involved in policy at all levels including draft responses and influencing policy internally and externally to the organization.
Due to the every changing environment of disability and housing in Scotland, Housing Options Scotland is an evolving organization. Interns will have the opportunity to support this through internal policy development, assisting the organization to reach national accreditation and conduct research pertinent to the work of the organization.
Housing Options Scotland runs casework service that assist disabled people, older people and veterans countrywide with their housing issues. This includes providing advice and information on ownership, renting and adaptation. Interns will have the opportunity to be involved with the casework process and assisting disabled people, older people and veterans to find the right house in the right place.
Peer Support Project
The peer support project is unique because it will offer disabled people, older people and veterans across Scotland the opportunity to engage with trained volunteers, who are themselves, disabled, and have direct experience of housing issues and solutions. This model of enabling other disabled people, older people and veterans to have the opportunity to engage with someone who has the knowledge, understanding and personal experience, and will assist that person in achieving a sustainable housing solution. This project is currently in development and interns will have the opportunity to assist in its development.
Fundraising, PR and External Communications
Housing Options Scotland receives funding from various sources including; the Scottish government, trusts and foundations and income generation. Interns will be given the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in fundraising in Scotland and will be given the opportunity to apply this knowledge. Housing Options Scotland also has a team of volunteers, staff and consultants who deal with PR and external communications for the organization. Interns will have the opportunity to engage in projects such as press strategy.
Training Programs & Outreach
Housing Options Scotland provides training and outreach across Scotland on issues surrounding housing for disabled people, older people and veterans for housing professionals, social workers, occupational therapists, voluntary organizations, local and national government, care groups and families. Interns will be given the opportunity to assist in the delivery and development of these programs.
