The courses are taught by experienced bilingual instructors. They are assisted by German tutors who help in different areas such as homework, conversation, projects, etc. There are up to eight class levels for students with elementary to intermediate knowledge of German (A2 – B1/2). Classes are small (16 participants max.) and usually have two teaching staff. Every weekday students will have four hours of language lessons in the morning and a two-hour tutorial in the afternoon. The course encompasses intensive training in writing and speaking, grammar, reading comprehension, intercultural general knowledge and everyday culture. In addition, course participants prepare projects on subjects of their own choice within the fields of language and knowledge of Germany. Along with the additional activities, the course comprises approximately 32 contact hours per week.
After lessons and tutorials, students can pick from a variety of interesting activities. For example:
- Lectures and seminars on Germany and German culture
- Seminars on phonetics and typical mistakes
- Musical events
- Cooking course on Swabian cuisine
- Sports (e.g. swimming, hiking, University of Tübingen fitness program)
- Tours of Tübingen/ town festivals
Most of these activities are covered by the program fee.
Excursions to locations outside Tübingen are offered as part of the Summer Course. Tübingen is surrounded by beautiful countryside and interesting towns, castles and monasteries. One full-day excursion takes you to Lake Constance; there is a variety of interesting activities focusing on Germany’s largest lake, which is set in an impressive landscape.
The four week Summer Course is offered each year during the month of August. Exact program dates can be found in the online application.
